UNION, SC – Over the course of three hours, both XC1 racers battled through the field and pines to end up with two top-10 finishes, while KX™250X pilot Lyndon Snodgrass (the defending champion) battled for the lead for the majority of the race but ultimately crossed the finish line in second place in the XC2 Class.
No. 17 Kawasaki veteran Josh Strang started his 17th season in the US by returning to GNCC racing after missing nearly a year of the series due to injury and raced to a strong eighth-place finish. Strang had this to say about his day: "It was good to be back racing after the injury, the overall results weren’t what I was expecting or hoping for, but I'm just happy to be back racing."
Kawasaki newcomer and South Carolina native Grant Baylor would start his home race with a bad start, coming across the line in ninth place on the first lap. However, over the course of the six-lap race, the KX™450X rider gradually worked his way through the field to cross the finish line in sixth place overall and in the XC1Class.
Defending XC2 Champion Lyndon Snodgrass would have a strong start to his championship defense in the opening round with a second-place finish in the XC2 Class. The Australian native would lead four out of the six laps contested, but ultimately would lose the lead on the last lap of racing. "It was fun to be battling up front again; I wish I could have held onto the lead though." "All in all, it’s a good start to the season, and I’m looking forward to the next round," said Snodgrass.
Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/Kawasaki's next race will be in the sands of Palatka, Florida, in two weeks' time for the second round of the GNCC Series.
